<br />
<br />
Earlier thi year, <a href="http://anapez.blogspot.com.es/">Ana Pez</a> and I decided to help a group of children, aged between 8 and 12, to make their first videogame. This is the result: Space Call<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
The idea was to make a simple game: a space shooter in the style of arcade games.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTPOhOvJBWtgvcwJBfamjBVVx1jXhOYDrIDiCTCQD13PL6qJ0SpPHgNoLk1hfoqX512X5g3ezimHSKClCwZxMGjHhh84WhKSGk_px2IFSqTYff2NoKuuNu7YFwwwqyFdt7cqdX6paKXn05/s1600/SpaceCall_01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTPOhOvJBWtgvcwJBfamjBVVx1jXhOYDrIDiCTCQD13PL6qJ0SpPHgNoLk1hfoqX512X5g3ezimHSKClCwZxMGjHhh84WhKSGk_px2IFSqTYff2NoKuuNu7YFwwwqyFdt7cqdX6paKXn05/s400/SpaceCall_01.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Ana coordinated the creative part with the children. By using free and easy to use software the kids made the entirety of the drawings, sounds and music for the game. At the same time they also chose the theme and mechanics although, as anyone who has ever worked with kids would know, they have so many ideas that we are forced to select those that seem possible to make within the time we had and within what was technically possible.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifVdNK7KmLS4Kj1DCPzQLPESEU6exGGQKKvw6MIEQnaRgqNopPBLGMtxaix_uLI2bL3MSZvwlOdq06vyYvcXPfTpGKPReVUbXeIjT8bBIetbZibq5auzhyphenhyphenKU-mUa-vH6owMOyMoGwHFaa7/s1600/SpaceCall_04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifVdNK7KmLS4Kj1DCPzQLPESEU6exGGQKKvw6MIEQnaRgqNopPBLGMtxaix_uLI2bL3MSZvwlOdq06vyYvcXPfTpGKPReVUbXeIjT8bBIetbZibq5auzhyphenhyphenKU-mUa-vH6owMOyMoGwHFaa7/s400/SpaceCall_04.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I programmed it by interpreting their instructions and designs the best I could . I added colour, scaling, rotations and transparency effects to make it a bit more dynamic and to highlight the good work that they did. There were many more designs and many more great ideas that we didn´t have time to put in but I think the result is good.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKIENr48b215ggVs0SLSProVNKN6JkPbxcquwd-1Q-hqyWwetQI2WUwbbcqJs9rEnAoNKFoSAU-LpdbfvDRNQcWz_MYm1tO9X4DTX7rMriGK8gijsmBhPDdFq6c3U4sek078J-XfV6nrRD/s1600/SpaceCall_06.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="195" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKIENr48b215ggVs0SLSProVNKN6JkPbxcquwd-1Q-hqyWwetQI2WUwbbcqJs9rEnAoNKFoSAU-LpdbfvDRNQcWz_MYm1tO9X4DTX7rMriGK8gijsmBhPDdFq6c3U4sek078J-XfV6nrRD/s400/SpaceCall_06.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
In a similar way, Ana decided which program would be used to make each part of the project:<br />
<br />
The spaceships and enemies were made in <a href="http://piq.codeus.net/">Piq</a><br />
The backgrounds in <a href="http://mrdoob.com/projects/harmony/">Harmony</a><br />
The explosions and shots in <a href="http://www.marmoset.co/hexels">Hexels</a><br />
The tunnel in <a href="http://cellusious.itch.io/alivepaintery">Alive Paintery</a><br />
The sound effects in <a href="http://www.superflashbros.net/as3sfxr/">as3Sfxr</a><br />
The music in <a href="https://soundation.com/">Soundation</a><br />
<br />
The game was programmed in <a href="http://www.clickteam.com/clickteam-fusion-2-5">Fusion 2.5</a><br />
<br />
The project was made during 4-5 months, with the children working 2 hours per week in class and me working on my spare time.<br />
<br />

<br />
I recently made this music video for William Onyeabor, a nigerian afro-funk forgotten legend.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>I was contacted by <a href="http://luakabop.com/">Luaka Bop</a>, the label that has been working on reissuing a compilation album of William Onyeabor´s music for five years. Innitially they were just interested in collaboration on the project somehow and after talking we agreed on making a music video.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbGp_oEuSUu9cW_cupK4A9Bkd75z61Rg1ZGNdHLV51A2AC6StnYKCvmKAQ-0nahoiQTpsjgmFyfLV-1K8ZMNPnn2zKI9nQRK8TmyVtUTy_wHTASX8M_D2i4eEOe9XtUxubaYZlTMIqrc-8/s1600/WilliamOnyeabor-300x296.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbGp_oEuSUu9cW_cupK4A9Bkd75z61Rg1ZGNdHLV51A2AC6StnYKCvmKAQ-0nahoiQTpsjgmFyfLV-1K8ZMNPnn2zKI9nQRK8TmyVtUTy_wHTASX8M_D2i4eEOe9XtUxubaYZlTMIqrc-8/s1600/WilliamOnyeabor-300x296.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Because the budget was very low, the time very short, and I would be working alone I had to come up with a very economic way of producing the video. An additional problem was that the song "Atomic Bomb" suggested a more narrative kind of video, so I would need to make quite a lot of shots. Luaka Bop provided me with 3 minute long radio edit of the song as the original one was almost 8 minutes, which would have been impossible to make in time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJKPkuojpmhO6_NJHrdYGyQzWXQM45rRIFyZBxkrWIM5lcNFc-MPr_qKbS_VKvdCxoqtKN6M_LNWahcKoJK397Eb0leeRJ4u0s15UTE0YRXk3WOS-Y6_EloU0aJANCKNeIY2A4Hy9cuYM-/s1600/AtomicBombmatic01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJKPkuojpmhO6_NJHrdYGyQzWXQM45rRIFyZBxkrWIM5lcNFc-MPr_qKbS_VKvdCxoqtKN6M_LNWahcKoJK397Eb0leeRJ4u0s15UTE0YRXk3WOS-Y6_EloU0aJANCKNeIY2A4Hy9cuYM-/s320/AtomicBombmatic01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I decided to use Flash, because I could animate super-fast. I needed to draw a lot of things quick but make it look reasonably good. This is why I chose this thick line aesthetic, filled with colorful gradients, an idea I took from one of my favorite animation shorts ever: <a href="http://troshinskyeng.blogspot.com.es/2012/05/ograblenie-po.html">"Styled Robbery"</a>. It´s super fast to draw this way, because you only have two solid colors. To avoid the ugly Flash brush effect I simply added broken lines around those fills. To make it look more vivid, and because I wouldn´t be able to make very detailed animations I also animated the gradients, adding little ornamental movements and color changes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7bFgcDPadXn9a6F_Jh81ULJRF4o8NUoTczfppu7JrmHDYri2l37RWde0vby0ZotRyiiuq9jXvEAyg0w36HwwiL7PvxBUf6Yi26_0G69AwxUPzBo7wkpvbUs1abfg-1T-AKiEmtMTYDKe/s1600/AB49.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgr7bFgcDPadXn9a6F_Jh81ULJRF4o8NUoTczfppu7JrmHDYri2l37RWde0vby0ZotRyiiuq9jXvEAyg0w36HwwiL7PvxBUf6Yi26_0G69AwxUPzBo7wkpvbUs1abfg-1T-AKiEmtMTYDKe/s320/AB49.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Following the "Styled Robbery" inspiration, and given the atomic bomb motif in the song, I wanted to make something inspired by spy movies and have a cold-war setting, all that mixed with <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/music/2013/oct/17/five-year-quest-reissue-william-onyeabor">Onyeabor´s own mystery</a>, as so little is known about his life besides all the rumors and myths.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCjfekSQrU3KKYlQ0Ep8ux6W3io3G8s3U6EgVyzxkMw14Kjqud1eQErj0Bhz0TJcUeQ450_w9KZ7vCGlRRaeCc30LP-S_BBbxU0em4CT2WO8uYxRRA8CQAPMfebYDHdWE_t6wvQO_A5XlD/s1600/ABcolors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCjfekSQrU3KKYlQ0Ep8ux6W3io3G8s3U6EgVyzxkMw14Kjqud1eQErj0Bhz0TJcUeQ450_w9KZ7vCGlRRaeCc30LP-S_BBbxU0em4CT2WO8uYxRRA8CQAPMfebYDHdWE_t6wvQO_A5XlD/s320/ABcolors.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I tried to come up with a narrative that could use a lot of reptetion to be able to recycle as many shots as possible, and tried to make it so this repetition would create a rhythm.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0BQJvsbg23vOq3w6vXm86Nec6FoaTDDhw9hog7xk8sdO3v2jbMUjBfkCUaEWtgywJEh34eDXwtbTLD8gDvAw4auDks-kVZzjoJQVuSOCdUyQppP9NlMF1GalYQZ8dM3-_zDVdz0SZZ9y4/s1600/ABshapes.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0BQJvsbg23vOq3w6vXm86Nec6FoaTDDhw9hog7xk8sdO3v2jbMUjBfkCUaEWtgywJEh34eDXwtbTLD8gDvAw4auDks-kVZzjoJQVuSOCdUyQppP9NlMF1GalYQZ8dM3-_zDVdz0SZZ9y4/s320/ABshapes.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I started working directly on an animatic. I first laid out the key events in the begginging, middle and end, and after that I slowly started filling the gaps, taking every oportunity to re-use assets, scenes and animations. This was actually very fun and fruitful process as not only I was able to gain time but the story itself got so much better and coherent. Some of my favorite scenes came out of the constraints, by thinking, "what if instead of making a new scene here I could use something I already have?".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglXqmXSrb-TzgC9izwrctk9k76JFX7Tf53sgYwtwNFDC12U-bucF0vglb-u1lYWzEErgPU0MdEERflrEkogU3Ilxl1tw-aZtwMU2ZUonxN7lulYV41I_RCjWpnzw-FQeJeVRJSgRPv4CBx/s1600/ABloop01.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglXqmXSrb-TzgC9izwrctk9k76JFX7Tf53sgYwtwNFDC12U-bucF0vglb-u1lYWzEErgPU0MdEERflrEkogU3Ilxl1tw-aZtwMU2ZUonxN7lulYV41I_RCjWpnzw-FQeJeVRJSgRPv4CBx/s320/ABloop01.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
When animating, I first made all the more difficult shots and left the smaller ones and those that were variations of existing ones for the end. During this process I also amused myself hiding as many radioactive symbols and other references to atomic bombs, aswell as other details from Luaka Bop´s press material aluding the the reissue project. See if you can find them all!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmQJ_tiPUkNEOzdKs1HyEaY3JDt1qZfMKo24e_ZJhXcuF9v7WwfB5NYxt2e0ijVmque-Vs15p3g65LFI8mI4NZwHbvH_D2E-T5kKfFEyksIZkV_CH0oCxCbIBx27WCxKAFVuFMnnqX74ZL/s1600/ABloop02.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmQJ_tiPUkNEOzdKs1HyEaY3JDt1qZfMKo24e_ZJhXcuF9v7WwfB5NYxt2e0ijVmque-Vs15p3g65LFI8mI4NZwHbvH_D2E-T5kKfFEyksIZkV_CH0oCxCbIBx27WCxKAFVuFMnnqX74ZL/s320/ABloop02.gif" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The whole video was made from start to finish in just a month, featuring a total of 51 shots. While it´s not the greatest thing, I´m truly proud of it, specially considering how fast I made it, but mostly because of the chance of making a music video for such an amazing and unique musician. It was also great to be able to finish an animated piece so fast, specially after spending three years on Astigmatismo.<br />

The making of Astigmatismo´s DVD had too many delays but it´s finally reaching its end. I had a number of technical problems both with the interactive content of the DVD and the making of the box. I have also been busy sending the film to festivals and attending some of them which didn´t leave me with a lot of spare time. I appologize to everyone who is waiting for his copy. Rest assured, it´s coming, and I wouldn´t have made you wait so much if it wasn´t in order to achieve the best possible result. The silkscreen printing of the box was courtesy of <a href="http://www.zuloazul.com/">Zulo Azul</a> and the disc printing was made possible thanks to <a href="http://www.rumblerecordsonline.com/">Rumble Records</a>. I am editing a video of the process but in the meantime, below you can see some images that, hopefully, will explain why it has taken so long:<br />

<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="270" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/UMejCArLGBo" width="360"></iframe></div>
<br />
I had the pleasure to be at the <a href="http://www.annecy.org/">Annecy Festival</a>, where my short film <a href="http://www.astigmatismo-shortfilm.com/">"Astigmatismo"</a> was in international competition. Above you will be able to see me interviewed by Marcel Jean, director of the festival, during the breakfasts with directors (in french).<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>It was a great honor to be there, specially among masters like Georges Schwizgebel, Theodore Ushev or Chris Landreth. My two favorite short films this year were <a href="http://www.nfb.ca/film/gloria_victoria">"Gloria Victoria"</a> by Theodore Ushev and "Futon" but Yoriko Mizushiri.<br />
<br />

<br />
Apart from that I also had the pleasure to be interviewed by <a href="http://www.zewebanim.com/">Alexis Hunot</a> next to <a href="http://www.hefangwei.com/">Héfang Wei</a>. A very funny experience that I hope one day will appear online so I can share it.<br />

After two years of preproduction and one year of intensive work my short film "Astigmatismo" is finally available online:<br />

<br />
<br />
<div lang="fr-FR">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span lang="en-US">The
recent <a href="http://www.errantsignal.com/blog/?p=352">Greenlight
debate</a> got me thinking about something I had in my mind for
a good while: there needs to be a way for funding videogames that are
not profitable, not marketable or commercially viable. Games that are
important yet won´t generate any benefits.</span></span></span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">I
deeply believe that the lack of such a possibility is what prevents
videogames from evolving. Sure there is people doing experimental
games, but most of them are small and not very polished. It´s enough
to look at the amount of work and care that developers put into their
commercial releases in comparison to their freeware experiments. What
would happen if they could invest the same time, care and energy into
such experiments while not having to bother with how to market it?
How far could they push these concepts? How deeply could they explore
the possibilities of the medium?</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">I
also strongly believe that this would benefit the whole industry as
there needs to be a risk-free environment to be able to truly
experiment. It´s the exact way it has worked for cinema: all the
wild experimentation and innovation happens in short films, that are
made possible through grants and funds with no return investment. And
this opens new creative paths that once proven to be successful get
incorporated into feature films and the mainstream cinema.</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">In
France it works remarkably well. The SACD, the private organism that
takes care of author´s rights for the french cinema, takes a cut of
the box office profits, dvd sales, etc, and invests them back into
funding more cinema. This means that a blockbuster hit is good for
the whole industry, as it will not only benefit its makers but also
will help fund other films, documentaries, tv series, experimental
shortfilms and whatnot. This has created a healthy ecosystem where
there is a good range of funding programs that, amongst other things,
makes possible the production of projects that don´t generate any
profit at all.</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">Could
we imagine one day something similar for games? Imagine how much
money could be raised if you took 0.1% from the profits of every
gaming blockbuster in a year. Imagine if that money could be used for
funding projects that would help develop the medium, without the need
to return a single penny. Can we dream of something like that?</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">Could
we at least imagine an independent "experimental gameplay fund"?
What if successful indies committed to donate a small percentage of
their profits to the fund? What if the Humble Bundle would allow its customers to put a chunk into it?</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">What
I mean is: the money is there, but is there the will?</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">There would be no "Getting on Steam" debate if developers who have bigger hopes for the medium than another zombie survival game would have a real alternative.</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">Am I
being too optimistic?</span></div>

<br />
Recently I illustrated a cover for this young adults novel by the russian author Dina Sabitova, originally published by Samokat and translated and published in spanish by Pearson.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
It´s a quite bitter story about a boy and a girl abandoned by their mother, who try to take care of themselves on their own. For this cover I had the chance to be able to use some authentic russian fabrics. My mother worked as a textile designer in a factory in Moscow and still has some pieces of fabric from that time. The illustration is a collage that uses these fabrics glued directly on the paper, the rest of the drawing uses china ink and a little bit of colored pencil.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRTGBhGH8wdSR9OdTHVbPOGQs3-wYllDdULEGUZGwUoYiCy48jKqDFWkq2OhRf1IzQ167N5CZHIGvmV0ll2x4EUnqI26ey2S1tpbnNxEUOLixZh71rJmnS4cgOHsqd4RNMyMqC9j9sILx7/s1600/invierno02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRTGBhGH8wdSR9OdTHVbPOGQs3-wYllDdULEGUZGwUoYiCy48jKqDFWkq2OhRf1IzQ167N5CZHIGvmV0ll2x4EUnqI26ey2S1tpbnNxEUOLixZh71rJmnS4cgOHsqd4RNMyMqC9j9sILx7/s400/invierno02.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The reason for using these fabrics was not only because of their origin but also to evoque the presence of the children´s grandmother, who was a dressmaker and one of the key characters in the book.Troshinskyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13652441923906008074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3016772281304032242.post-84194766445515733142012-05-28T22:49:00.000+02:002012-05-28T23:41:05.752+02:00Digital books for free<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1Hqwiy8O8KCI6ddWc8SG306dKa5gp_4eE4YoMQfPUDD6dZwUCPS97fFnXx_DOZEHK19DhoPhN4tTj8p-qQUgRtsDtOz99B-igCDlvI2gvP9pgVZk8TQEGWUhv8nafHygATGOrBW-A6aO4/s1600/digital.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1Hqwiy8O8KCI6ddWc8SG306dKa5gp_4eE4YoMQfPUDD6dZwUCPS97fFnXx_DOZEHK19DhoPhN4tTj8p-qQUgRtsDtOz99B-igCDlvI2gvP9pgVZk8TQEGWUhv8nafHygATGOrBW-A6aO4/s320/digital.gif" width="310" /></a></div>
<br />
I´d like to explain some of the reasons that drove me to put some of my books as <a href="http://www.troshinsky.com/descargaseng.html">free downloads</a>.<br />
<br />
But if I had to tell you a single reason it would be: because I can.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I never gave the rights for digital publishing for those books and it doesn´t seem like anybody wants them, so why not use them myself? I could even charge money for the downloads if I wanted, but I don´t, this is not about money for me.<br />
<br />
I want for anybody, anywhere in the world, with or without money, to have access to my books. It seems a bit absurd to me that only a small amount of priviledged people, those lucky enough to live in some of the main spanish cities, who have been in some of the few bookstores that sell my books, that they were there during the three-four months period before the bookseller sends the unsold books back to the distributor and that in that moment the book wasn´t buried in the last shelf of the store, had had the chance to see it. And with the exception of some libraries, mainly those of the region of Madrid, that was the only chance my books had to find their readers.<br />
<br />
Even if they did see it in the bookstore, a reader has the right to read the book before buying it, specially when it´s the case of a children´s picture book, they can read it form beggining to end. So why shouldn´t he be allowed to read it from beggining to end in the website of its author? Why, if surely the readers that visit an authors website are the most passionate ones about his work? Why deny them access to their passion? Why even the websites of the publishers don´t allow their visitors to read their books, if certainly the ones that visit a publishers site are their best clients? Why treat them like thieves? Have you ever been in a bookstore were you were treated like a thief? Did you ever came back?<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvL87Q9fslbwwKGTkVr0YyOIAzxxHptVK_5AG1TDUHgta9fP-6me3UoLXwtXiYKZh_PLRwBfQ8V6VYYgpZnonl9opS0kHVZ_1GxwP-UmKWLuIPME9AiFipD9RycXtt2kJr2OhcpZi1Fxnp/s1600/angry+bookseller.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvL87Q9fslbwwKGTkVr0YyOIAzxxHptVK_5AG1TDUHgta9fP-6me3UoLXwtXiYKZh_PLRwBfQ8V6VYYgpZnonl9opS0kHVZ_1GxwP-UmKWLuIPME9AiFipD9RycXtt2kJr2OhcpZi1Fxnp/s320/angry+bookseller.jpg" width="207" /></a></div>
<br />
Obviously, the printed book is much nicer, more so when it´s a carefully designed object. But, is it really better that if a reader doesn´t have the means to access the printed copy he should be denied its access in any other form? Do you really think that after having read a digital copy of a book there is no more sense for acquiring it on paper?<br />
<br />
Here, in my website, I don´t have to fight with nobody. In this place there´s nothing that distracts, nothing that fights for your attention. My books can be perfectly visible and always available, no matter when or where, no matter if one person comes or ten thousand at the same time. This is my home and I love having visitors. Please come in and stay as long as you like, have a look around, take anything you like, sit and listen to me or tell me something and I will listen to you. I promise I´ll treat your right because you came to see me and that flatters me and makes me happy.<br />
<br />
I opened the possibility for anybody to pay whatever they want, in the form of a donation, in exchange for the downloads. But it would have been very naive of my part to expect any revenue. There are rare occasions where people who have money and want to show me their support, want to buy one of my books. Except in many cases the book is out of stock or simply not distributed in their country. The "donate" button is for those cases, but you can ignore it and not feel bad about it. The publishers already paid me for those books, I don´t expect any more income for royalties, I don´t expect reprints, I don´t expect them to translate it. I have no problem with anybody downloading them for free, as far as I´m concearned, I´m not losing money with it.<br />
<br />
I´m unaware if I´m the first illustrator to put his books for download. I wish I wasn´t, but don´t know of anyone who does (correct me if I´m wrong here). In any case, from here, I would like to encourage other authors to join me in this inniciative. I have had more visitors on my website that all the copies of all my books together, when was the last time you could reach such a numerous audience so easily?Troshinskyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13652441923906008074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3016772281304032242.post-77312174495988054432012-05-16T22:38:00.002+02:002012-05-16T22:38:19.849+02:00Astigmatismo Short Film<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/aukFe4aEKvk?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">I would like to introduce you to, what´s in my opinion, the very best animation film that exists: "Styled Robbery".</span></div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">It is an animated mini-series in four episodes: "American style robbery", "French style robbery", "Italian style robbery" and "Russian style robbery". It was made in 1978 and it´s obviously a series of parodies of heist movies from that time. It´s directed by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yefim_Gamburg">Yefim Gamburg</a> and it´s filmd in the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soyuzmultfilm">Soyuzmultfilm</a> studios.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">For me it represents the ideal of fiction for children. More so now that it´s the living example of everything that is forbidden in children´s animation.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/9-MWYLkvjTc?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">These series have
obsessed me since my childhood. I had the chance to have it in a VHS
tape that I watched over and over. I never get tired of it, I have
watched it a hundred times and I would watch it again some more. The
reason is that when I was a kid the thing I wanted to watch were
grown-up films and the gangster genre felt terribly attractive to me.
"Styled Robbery" satisfied this thirst for mature content:
it seemed for adults but it still was made for children. There are
shootouts, death, blood, betrayal, sex, tobacco, alcohol...
everything you could expect from a mature film and what, in the
context of children´s animation, would scandalize many parents
today. The main characters are thieves, the sense of humor is acid
and cynic and the references are clearly for a grown-up audience. And
still, the fantasy, the rhythm and the absurdity manages to
conciliate the mature with the childish.</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">It is the kind of
animation film that is not made anymore. Not only because of the
themes, the aesthetics are really different, the animation is of a
precision and sensibility very rarely seen nowadays, and the quality
of the music surpasses what most animation feature films can deliver
today.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/RheMP25O-Kc?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="color: black;"><span lang="en-US">But
what fascinates me the most is how these series have grown up with
me. With every year I like this more and more, I now understand the
references and the humor, specially in the "Italian style
robbery", which as a kid was the only one I </span></span><span lang="en-US">didn´t</span><span style="color: black;"><span lang="en-US">
like, and which I now see as really brilliant. I have also discovered
"Russian style robbery" which was censored and was not in
my video tape. But "French style robbery" has always been
and still is my favorite.</span></span></span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">The level of
detail deserves a mention: the characters are caricatures of famous
actors like Alain Delon, Brigitte Bardot or Marcello Mastroianni and
the voices were recorded in the original languages and then
translated to Russian by a single actor who speaks directly over the
original recording, exactly the way films have always been dubbed in
Russia, just like it was an actual foreign film.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/ILIE8YxKpi8?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>
<br />
<div lang="en-US" style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">The mix of fantasy
and realism, the adult and the childish, the hypnotic rhythm, the
black humor, the mix of visual styles, the subtle references, the
double meanings and the overall coherence is all I aspire to in my
works, so it´s the reason why "Styled Robbery" represents
for me an ideal and has influenced me numerous times and will keep
inspiring me in the future. </span>

<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">After all this
years I kept finding the story and concept of this little book
particularly pertinent. Possibly the fact that I came with the
concept, illustrated and produced it in barely a week helped. I still
found it a pity that an idea I was still proud of had its place in
such a limited production.</span></div>

<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">From the year I
came second in the "Lazarillo" picture book prize I have
kept participating stubbornly. Last year I decided to remake "The
Fireboy" in the shape of a picture book to enter the contest yet
another time.</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">The book itself
speaks about misbehaved boys. The original idea came because from its
shape. I feel very attracted by books-objects and making one inside
of a matchbox seemed easy and accessible. The title came instantly,
it sounded right and was suggestive. I decided that the ideal would
be that the illustrations themselves were painted in fire.</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">In the original
little book only the background were made by burning paper, but in
the "remake" I decided to take this logic to its extreme.
The illustrations were done using a welding torch on a 300g
watercolour paper. I cut out aluminium stencils to limit the forms.
In practice it was a very similar process to airbrush painting, with
the difference that heat goes up and that the paper keeps darkening
for a little while after you stopped burning it, so you have to
anticipate to the effect as it´s easy to burn too much and end up
with an ugly black spot in the middle of the illustration. Added to
this, some details were drawn in burnt milk. It´s a trick I learned
back as a kid. You can paint or write with milk on a white paper and
the result becomes invisible, but it reappears if you apply a flame
to it. Milk also has an obvious link to childhood so it seemed like a
very appropriate addition. The silhouette of the boy is made in
chalk. All illustrations in the book combine these three techniques.
Given the fact that the burning technique and the chalk don´t allow
for a very precise work the original illustrations were made in two
times their printing size.</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">

<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman';"><br /></span></span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">One idea I
renounced to was to make a typography out of pieces of burnt matches.
I made some tests and, though the result was good, I concluded that
the process would take me forever and said no to the idea.</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">The book uses a
very simple structure. The enumeration, a classic fairy tale
resource, creates a "crescendo" in tension and intrigue
towards an unexpected ending. Visually, the rounded framing emphasize
the fantastic side of the tale and the constant zoom in reflects this
growing tension. To complete the clean graphical style of the
illustrations, the cover, inner cover and back cover use very simple
symbolic images easy to recognize. The inner cover, which shows a
fingerprint surrounded by a halo of burnt paper, concentrates this
idea of a boy who burns everything he touches. To push this idea even
further the page before has a hole like the it was burnt through it.
The book is bound in orange fabric to match the warm colours of the
illustrations and the endpapers are orange laid-paper.</span></div>

<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">I don´t feel
particularly proud of the text but I think it works. Writing in verse
is not pleasurable for me and it´s not something I take very
seriously. If anything, it´s more of a pressure as it´s were more
obviously one can give away how bad of a writer he is. But it was
hard to imagine the book in any other way, in my head, the book had
to have the rhythm of a childish song, I think it adds to its
coherence and that without it there would be no chance for the
humoristic part of the book to exist. Curiously, the original text I
wrote for the miniature book was in English, as the goal was for it
to be distributed in an international book-fair. For some reason it
seemed easier to write in English than in Spanish. Maybe because I
associate it with the works of Edward Gorey...</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">The first version
of the book I bound (the one I entered the Lazarillo contest), had a
20x20cm shape. I gave it the standard picture book format in an
attempt to put it inside that category. Later I realised my mistake:
I was trying to impose a conventional format to an unconventional
book. It felt forced, the illustrations and the overall design of the
book were unable to populate a format that big. I did what the book
was crying for: I made it small. It´s a great example of how the
decision of the format can affect the book. In the simpleness and
discretion of its new shape the book showed its best qualities.</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">

<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<br /></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">The book is still
unpublished as I barely showed it to anybody. In fact, the León
book-fair will provide its first true audience and will give me an
idea of how much does it appeal. I personally see it as a humoristic
book, although some people tend to see the final twist as
melancholic, which does n´t bother me at all. While it does have
this comical facet I must admit that it might be a little bit adult
in its humour, although I don´t like to underestimate the
understanding capacities of a child. There´s only one way to find
out and it might be that the León book-fair will serve to that
purpose.</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></div>
<div lang="en-GB" style="margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="color: black; font-family: inherit;">I am not satisfied
with every illustration in the book, but the process was so tiring
and I had to do so many tests and repeat so many of the illustrations
that I had to content myself with what I had achieved, more so if I
wanted to be in time for the contest. As an object, it´s a book that
I really like, though I doubt I´ll find a publisher ready to print
it exactly the way I designed it.</span></div>Troshinskyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13652441923906008074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3016772281304032242.post-41016744879632679252012-04-17T12:41:00.001+02:002012-04-17T12:41:49.100+02:00Loop Raccord nominee for the A Maze indie connect<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUCqvWB9Qean97l81KeMZwB4g8JkAB0KSZ70D91qAej4iv3x0xFOJAjyk9qoRWrNN5zOwFj2geqgxrzvDB4NXubiWO81c3y-G_EUEUGqD3FmKqGk5wT2Oyn2VM-sx2YR5Oux3TOa10QGKT/s1600/pluraldead.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br class="Apple-interchange-newline" /><img border="0" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUCqvWB9Qean97l81KeMZwB4g8JkAB0KSZ70D91qAej4iv3x0xFOJAjyk9qoRWrNN5zOwFj2geqgxrzvDB4NXubiWO81c3y-G_EUEUGqD3FmKqGk5wT2Oyn2VM-sx2YR5Oux3TOa10QGKT/s320/pluraldead.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
With the recent web redesign I decided to close <a href="http://pluralgames.blogspot.com/">Plural Games</a>, the website I originally opened to host my videogames.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>Plural games never intended to be a trademark or a label, it was simply the name I gave to the page where I would be putting my interactive experiments, it was the name of a project. The name itself obviously comes from my short film <a href="http://www.troshinsky.com/jeuxpluriels.html">Jeux Pluriels</a>, which speaks about impossible games and which served as a bridge to a new activity: experimental videogame design.<br />
<br />
When I first started developing games I did not expect big results, much less the interest they ended up generating. It was the reason why I didn´t care to give them a dedicated place in my main website and that I used something as modest as a slightly reskinned blogger to host them. After more than a year, nine games, two festivals and several exhibitions, I feel that my new hobby needs it´s own place next to the rest of my work. I am certain that I will be making games in the next years and that I want to give them as much importance as to any other project.<br />
<br />
But most of all because I don´t wasnt to have a divided audience anymore. Until now, those interested in my illustration or animation work were not exposed to my videogames and those who came interested in my videogames were not exposed to my illustrations and animations. For me, the mix of experiences and skills has been crucial. Each medium has given me tools, and playing with the exchange of knowledge acquired in one field and applied to another is what has given me the best results. For this reason, it´s very important to me that even somebody who likes my books but is not interested in my games will be exposed to them, because there´s always the chance that he might discover something unexpected, something he wasn´t looking for and yet something as good or even better that the what he came for in the first place.<br />
<br />
From now on, the Plural Games website redirects to the <a href="http://www.troshinsky.com/loopraccordeng.html">Loop Raccord</a> one (the reason being that it´s the destination of more than half of its traffic). The way we knew Plural Games is dead, but it will surely come back, in a different shape, with a different purpose and in another time.Troshinskyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13652441923906008074noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3016772281304032242.post-44383642554282956422012-04-02T12:42:00.000+02:002012-04-02T12:42:51.385+02:00ABC Museum decortation<br />

Each of the members of the Ultrarradio crew chose a main character from the novels of Dickens and a landscape to represent. I chose Charles Darnay, for "A Tale of Two Cities". First, because the french revolution is a nice motif. Armies allow for some interesting rythm games, with all the soldiers in uniforms walking in formation. Secondly, because the character of Charles Darnay is described in the novel as physically very similar to Sydney Carton, another of the main characters, with this similarity playing a key role in the plot. It was hard to resist the temptation to play with this ambiguety. Is it really Charles Darnay the portrayed character? I took the chance to leave some clues that might create that doubt.<br />

Painting the glass corridor was a very nice experience. Being used to paint in small formats, it´s a great pleasure to have so much space, specially if said space is as welcoming as the ABC Museum´s cafeteria. I think the result is good but, in respect to my own part of the job, it would have been nice to have more time to be able to work in greater detail and polish.<br />

<div>
From the 23rd to the 25th of March I had the pleasure to give a workshop in the <a href="http://www.mrmarcelschool.com/">Mr. Marcel School</a>.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAB5jp3fiDtV-7pKsP1yFQAhwklJHv_tOc6UJvjfHQDkdzCDDLBPLjBoiu43cNcAQOnpMxDchHXQHpSzLeAECjnfFHdE_RkVxxx7ISAgKTC4uPWC-wuDQavi9qGBxKYqW_AjRBKEZkOZV_/s1600/microdoc02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAB5jp3fiDtV-7pKsP1yFQAhwklJHv_tOc6UJvjfHQDkdzCDDLBPLjBoiu43cNcAQOnpMxDchHXQHpSzLeAECjnfFHdE_RkVxxx7ISAgKTC4uPWC-wuDQavi9qGBxKYqW_AjRBKEZkOZV_/s320/microdoc02.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In the workshop, which I entitled "In the search for coherence", students were proposed to work on the relationship between each of the parts that made an illustrated project: size, technique, composition, color, support and destination, trying to make it so each of these parts complement each other and work together face to a common goal. My idea was to bring this logic to its extreme, looking for the limits of coherence and encouraging the students to make the creative process more important than the result.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm86ctNnFub31Z1rbee7wfYAx1Ks1jVrI5fcKF9pmNByG0xAUCR9yJm1_hoFPUjKrVOPjQG-8iLeF5w6_hl75JKeMKSRLLoBoEDjyjnVs2eysGORy1LaFjFlG-0VDw6JpstEu3lKQL0wwC/s1600/microdoc03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm86ctNnFub31Z1rbee7wfYAx1Ks1jVrI5fcKF9pmNByG0xAUCR9yJm1_hoFPUjKrVOPjQG-8iLeF5w6_hl75JKeMKSRLLoBoEDjyjnVs2eysGORy1LaFjFlG-0VDw6JpstEu3lKQL0wwC/s320/microdoc03.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The students started working from a series of short texts, from where they extracted ideas, concepts or themes that they wanted to work on. Then they planned the project, determining a work process that in some way had to be symbolic of the selected theme. Finding the necessary materials turned into a key part of the process as these had to be carefully chosen and, often, unusually disorted to fulfill their purpose.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaXirJC7wWm-XsitzENsQanZaETvdYiIt6Tn9dGwghO8vBy8ocm77GT9h5MLhyphenhyphenXb0_j1vxUQrcDYxQd1_0bt5M8WuqukT2U57vPaMNR4ezRv608pafAspygj0tVaCKpHirrazpuNl3tJ2T/s1600/microdoc04.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaXirJC7wWm-XsitzENsQanZaETvdYiIt6Tn9dGwghO8vBy8ocm77GT9h5MLhyphenhyphenXb0_j1vxUQrcDYxQd1_0bt5M8WuqukT2U57vPaMNR4ezRv608pafAspygj0tVaCKpHirrazpuNl3tJ2T/s320/microdoc04.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It is worth saying that the results couldn´t be more varied and surprising. If I succeded at something, it was probably at showing that concentrating on a coherent and sincere creative process can bring results that are not only good, but also quite authentic and revealing.</div>

Finally I did a complete redesign of the webside and I added this blog that I´m determined to update in a regular basis. The website is much more practical and accesible now. The most important novelty is the <a href="http://www.troshinsky.com/descargaseng.html">download</a> section where you can now grab some of my books.<br />
<br />
This blog, apart from being a place for news and work in progress will also gather some of my ideas and opinions in terms of illustration, animation and videogames. I will also be writing in greater detail about the creative processes, intentions and outcomes of some of my projects.<br />

<a href="http://www.abuenpaso.com/">A Buen Paso</a> just published what I consider to be my best book to date: <a href="http://www.troshinsky.com/mensajeeng.html">A Coded Message.</a><br />

It is the first picture book entirely made in ASCII. A book about alphabets, coded messages, spies and love. I will be writing a detailed analysis of the book in the future. Once again Pierre Corbinais has made a detailed and generous review of one of my games: <a href="http://www.troshinsky.com/coldwarhangover.html">Cold War Hangover</a>. Even if I sincerily appreciate his enthusiasm I can´t help but feeling that Pierre overestimates the game, more so after it´s catastrophic failure face to <a href="http://experimentalgameplay.com/blog/2011/12/5-buttons-competition-in-decemberjanuary/">the contest it was made for.</a> Maybe, at the end it is better that it says under its PC form, which seems a little bit more playable.<br />
